The RIDE THE WAVE Series

When risk is a challenge, fear becomes a compass – literally pointing people in the direction they need to go. To really achieve anything, you have to be able to tolerate and enjoy risk. In all fields, to make exceptional discoveries you need risk – you’re never going to have a breakthrough without it.”

Barbara Sahakian (University of Cambridge Neuropsychologist)

A CALL TO ADVENTURE

MY JOURNEY

On July 1, 2014, I began a new journey. Much like an odyssey, I answered a call to an adventure that would change  how I approached business and my life. My journey was tough. The toughest thing I have ever done. I experienced two epic failures that would serve as the genesis for this series, and the challenges I write about here are ones that I had to overcome personally. I have firsthand experience with everything written in this series and have the mental and physical scars to prove it. In writing this series, I kept specific people in mind and wanted those closest to me to serve as the inspiration and audience for this work. My goal was to entertain, motivate, and forever change the people who would read my story. Even though this is my journey, there’s a universal lesson within these posts and a unique message that will help anyone overcome a new business or personal challenge that is bigger than themselves.

THE IMPACT OF CHANGE

The reason you need to read and follow this series is because of change. Change is happening in business, and it’s impacting our personal lives faster than anyone could have predicted or anticipated. We’re starting to see the power of technology and information when it’s available to anyone with an Internet connection. We’ve seen how small companies, large organizations, and even individuals are leveraging that power to do amazing things on an unprecedented scale. In order to adapt to this change and stay relevant, you will need the ability to understand, manage, and explore the changing business situations around you quickly and effectively. You will need to ask, “What are the challenges of the new market conditions? What skills or knowledge is needed? What personal and professional risk am I willing to take on to find success?”

A NEW PROCESS

During my journey, I answered these questions through a set of personal and professional experiences. These experiences led me to write this series and to create a process to overcome these new challenges for myself, but also for others. I developed a process for anyone to understand and overcome the new challenges happening around them. With this series, I want to share what I learned and help you overcome the same challenges I experienced. This series will walk you through a new process for overcoming challenges and give you the confidence to make tough decisions and find success.

WHY THIS SERIES IS DIFFERENT

What makes this series different is the use of the surfer as a model for you to follow and a new set of principles to apply to the business world. These principles create a repeatable process that’s simple and easy to use, but that also achieves results. Most books use the past to try to explain the future. This series looks forward, however, instead of looking back, and uses the lens of the surfer to encourage action in a new direction. Riding the wave is about using the natural momentum of the change that we’re experiencing to overcome challenges instead of being crushed or wiped out by them. The goal is to be more like the surfer and to ride the wave.  This series is your playbook for the new way to succeed in business and life.
